you'll have to bear with me, i'm in panic mode since there's dust in my camera viewfinder. it's not a big deal since the sensor doesn't (yet) have dust on it, but it's annoying seeing spots on the image. i'll have to get it cleaned soon before the dust makes its way to the imaging area.
anyway, enough tech talk. here are some photos from a park during that foggy period we had last month. i was orignally going to use them for my class, but they got eliminated after i took better shots that exhibited the desired effect.
enjoy.

studio time
last week was the first time photographing in a studio. several stations were set up for shooting under different lighting conditions. at first i was nervous thinking i would screw something up or take too long trying to figure it out, but even though i had the oldest tripod that seemed out of place in a studio setting, i managed to get some good shots.
this is backlit (obviously)
this is lit from the front
this is indirect lightthis is hard light - note the sharp shadows
this is where i would normally put the soft light photo, but of course it was out of focus so you couldn't tell if it was the light or green photographer. don't worry, i'll get better
this is high contrast
and of course, low contrast
that's all i have for now. perhaps i'll have more interesting shots to share this week.

kung hei fat choi
perhaps it is fitting that i begin this blog at the beginning of the chinese lunar year.
february 18th marked the year of the pig. and a trip to chinatown yielded these:
dr. sun yat-sen:
the motion in this photo was inadvertently captured due to an exposure of 1/100s. the lesson here is to use a faster lens. this zoom lens showed its weakness in the following shot since the widest aperture it had was f/3.5
i noticed during the processing of these photos that the colour on the original raw photos are much more vibrant than can be diplayed in these jpegs. yet another reason why i will try to print my photos rather than post them solely on this blog.
now if you'll excuse me, i have to tend to my red envelopes.
